Bureau van Dijk is a major publisher of business information, and specialises in private company data combined with software for searching and analysing companies. It is a Moody’s Analytics company. Orbis is Bureau van Dijk’s flagship company database.
In September 2021 database belonging to Bureau van Dijk (bvdinfo.com) has been first put on sale on an underground hacking forum. Ever since hackers confirmed its authenticity. The full database’s size is 426GB, counting approximately 484.3 million lines. In January 2022 data breach has been published online and is now freely distributed through hacking forums.
The stolen files contain the following sensitive data:
- customer phone numbers,
- emails,
- physical addresses,
- full names,
- job titles,
- information about companies’ analysis by Bureau van Dijk,
- location, etc.
Moreover, data about patents, shareholders and projects has been leaked online.
